basketsNatural fibers including wild aromatic vetiver, sisal, liane, palm leaf, banana fiber and more are hand woven and coiled in Haiti to form functional and sturdy baskets. Once well known for basket production and a major supplier of baskets to the U.S., Haitian artisans have lost much of their market to inexpensive baskets made in China.  Local materials made into baskets for market and storage give Haitian basket makers an income and a chance at economic development.
